Man arrested for President Emmerson Mnangagwa is a “murderer”, and Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Chiwenga is a “diamond thief” placards
Gustaff Kativhu was arrested on 15 December 2015 after staging a lone placard carrying protest at the recently ended 17th Zanu PF Annual December conference.
He held and waved three placards labelled President Emmerson Mnangagwa is a “murderer” and Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantino Chiwenga is a “diamond thief” and is being charged with insulting President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President RTD Gen General Chiwenga.
The accused Kativhu is represented by the opposition party MDC-T executive member, Job Sikhala.
However of note is the fact that his application for bail was held by the courts awaiting for a full psychiatric examination of the accused by two government doctors. The psychiatric report was only availed yesterday.
Originally prosecutor Michael Reza had asked the courts to deny Kativhu bail arguing that he was a flight risk because he is of no fixed abode, address (from Chief Nyamukoho, Mudzi)
His address on the police charge sheet is written as from Chief Nyamukoho, Mudzi, and Reza said it had no fixed place as Mudzi is a constituency.
The prosecutor claimed people from that area have relatives in the neighbouring country, Mozambique.
newzimbabwevision asks, does this make any border area resident or someone with relatives from neighbouring countries, a flight risk? Did the fact that he chose to demonstrate his freedom of expression by waving placards, which actually said nothing different from what millions of Zimbabwe, have said in the past, still say now and will always say, that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is a “murderer” and Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantino Chiwenga is a “diamond thief”, make him a psychiatric patient?
Is this the new approach of silencing, those who dare speak out against oppressive authority? Speaking out against issues that directly affect the lives and welfare of the ordinary people of Zimbabwe is aright we should never lose.
